The targeting features in Synamedia Iris Ad Manager influence how, when, and where addressable ads are delivered. One such feature is Inventory Targeting, also known as Channel Awareness. Inventory targeting helps Synamedia Iris users to maximize revenues while achieving regulatory compliance.
Inventory Targeting has slightly different purposes depending on whether you are an advertiser or a publisher. For advertisers, Inventory Targeting identifies only the channels on which an advertiser wants their advertising to appear. On the other hand, publishers use Inventory Targeting to specify which advertisers or campaigns that they will accept on their channels.
Note that while the Inventory Targeting feature can improve targeting and audience relevancy, overly restrictive targeting can also reduce inventory, which is why it is important to use it carefully. Inventory Targeting can be used for the following objectives:
Legal and regulatory alignment of ads to channels. For example, a children’s channel will not want to show tobacco ads on its programs.
Advertiser brand management: Advertisers can choose where their ads should appear.
Disabling ad substitutions on unsanctioned SCTE-35 channels.
Clash management of linear and addressable ads.
Language compliance.
Note: The Inventory Targeting feature is turned off by default and will be enabled for tenants who require this feature and have defined their campaigns accordingly.
