Active Viewing Session: We define an active viewing session as one minute or more viewing of a linear programme, recording, or VOD asset on any device. This minimum threshold for an active viewing session is configurable by the video platform to match their own data definitions.
Monthly Active Users: Total number of unique household IDs that have been active (have a viewing session) in a calendar month. E.g. If there are 10k number of households that have at least one active viewing session in a calendar month, then the monthly active users for that month is 10k.
Monthly Active Devices: Total number of unique device IDs that have been active (have a viewing session) in a calendar month. E.g. If there are 12k devices (across 10k unique households) that have at least one active viewing session in a calendar month, then the monthly active devices for that month is 12k.
Device Groups and Device Types - Devices are divided into two main groups – Main and Companion.
Main devices: These cover the 10ft living room experiences – mainly around large screen devices constitute the Main devices – E.g. Set top boxes
Companion devices: any device other than the Main devices constitutes the companion devices. E.g. Mobile phone(Android/iOS), PC, Android TV, etc.
Session Types: Session types are various services offered to subscribers. Eg: VOD, Linear, CDVR, TV Restart etc., Journeys: We have defined a journey as the series of interactions between two viewing sessions or to a viewing session from standby. Since no two people get to a channel in an identical fashion, we have classified all journeys based on journey duration and number of UI interactions. E.g. If a subscriber is watching a movie (viewing session) and then navigates to search to find some other content and starts watching the new content, then a journey includes all the steps user has taken between watching the move and the new content.
Errors: Any type of failure that causes disruption to viewing session is an Error. Errors are captured and classified into meaningful categories to understand the type of error to be able to take relevant actions.
